AAAA Records
Find out what an AAAA record really is, when it’s used and whether you need to set up one for your domain name.
Every device which is connected to the Internet has a specific identifier referred to as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes PCs, web servers, smartphones, switches, and so on. The pool of IP addresses, which was introduced at first, has been distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are slowly getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain that opens a site has an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is comprised of four groups of numbers from 1 to 255 separated using a dot, while in the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is comprised of 8 sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this sort of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format supports a significantly greater number of IPs compared with the IPv4 format.

AAAA Records in Hosting
If you use a service with a third-party company and you've got to set up an AAAA record to forward a domain or a subdomain to their system, you are going to be able to do that with only a couple of clicks via the Hepsia Control Panel, included with our hosting solutions. Once you sign in, you need to navigate to the DNS Records section in which you are going to find all of the records for any domain or subdomain hosted in the account. Setting up a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking the type from a drop-down menu, that will be AAAA in this case, and then entering the value, or the actual IPv6 address, in a text box. As an additional option you could edit the TTL value (Time To Live), which defines how long the record will be active after you edit it or remove it in the future. The new AAAA record will be active in only an hour and will propagate worldwide two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start forwarding to the new server.
- AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new AAAA record for a domain or a subdomain hosted in a semi-dedicated server from our company features only a few really easy steps, which you will be able to find inside the Help section of your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel as well. You'll have to choose the hostname for which the new record will be created from a drop-down menu in which you will find all your domains and subdomains. Setting up the new AAAA record is as easy as picking out the one that you need and entering the IPv6 address for it. This is accomplished with no more than several mouse clicks, so you can effortlessly forward any hostname to a different service provider by using an AAAA record and use it with whatever service they supply. It will take seconds for the new record to be live and only around an hour for it to propagate globally, so you will be done in no time. The other company can also request you to set some TTL value for the AAAA record, that's different from the default one - 3600 seconds. This feature reveals how long it will take for any new value that you set for your record to take effect while the old value is still active. - AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
