Creating a CNAME record for each of the domain addresses or subdomains that you have within a hosting account allows you to forward it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain address will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain address it is being redirected to. In this light, you can't create a CNAME record to redirect your domain to a third-party provider and retain a working email service with the first hosting company. Additionally, it is very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it is commonly wrongly identified as the A record of the Internet domain being redirected. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain you own through one provider to the servers of some other provider assuming you have set up an Internet site with the latter. In this way, the site will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.
CNAME Records in Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record using our Linux hosting service is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few simple steps. You will find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you various opportunities - if you set up a company site on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
You are going to be able to create, edit and delete CNAME records really easy with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain or subdomain you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you just need to choose the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type in where it is going to be forwarded to, choose the record type, that will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be all set. Even if you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is quite easy to use, so you'll not have any issues. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which could be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for a website created elsewhere, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domain addresses, plus much more.
